HR 2936: Resilient Federal Forests Act of 2017

To expedite under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and improve forest management activities on National Forest System lands, on public lands under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management, and on Tribal lands to return resilience to overgrown, fire-prone forested lands, and for other purposes.

H.R. 2938 passed the House on November 1, 2017.

HR 3219: Make America Secure Appropriations Act, 2018

The House of Representative approved a legislative package of four bills in July 2017, which includes funding for the Department of Energy in fiscal year 2018.

The Department of Energy’s Office of Science would be flat funded and $30 million would be cut from biological and environmental research.

the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) would be eliminated if the bill were enacted.

Several science-related amendments were debated. Among the amendments that were agreed to were two small increases in funding for research on controlling aquatic invasive species.

HR 2603: SAVES Act

To amend the Endangered Species Act of 1973 to provide that nonnative species in the United States shall not be treated as endangered species or threatened species for purposes of that Act.

H.R. 2603 was considered during a hearing held by the House Natural Resources Committee on July 19, 2017.

HR 1274: State, Tribal, and Local Species Transparency and Recovery Act

This bill amends the Endangered Species Act of 1973 to require the Department of the Interior or the Department of Commerce, as appropriate, to provide to affected states all data that is used as the basis of a determination on whether a species is an endangered species or a threatened species before making a determination.

The appropriate department must use data submitted by a state, tribal, or county government in making such a determination.

H.R. 1274 was considered in a hearing held by the House Natural Resources Committee on July 19, 2017.
